In the investigation into the death of Dean Verberckmoes, Ms. R.W. is being assisted by Mr. Bart De Decker of Frontline Lawyers.
On behalf of the client, the following announcement was distributed yesterday in view of the tendentious reporting about her person:
"This afternoon, my client was brought before the Dendermonde examining magistrate, who decided to place her under suspicion and to temporarily detain her in view of the ongoing investigation into the death of Dean Verberckmoes.
Notwithstanding my client fully realizes that the investigation into Dean's death leaves no one untouched, she regrets the sensationalism that has since been spread about her by various media outlets.
Out of respect for Dean and the next of kin, as well as with a view to preserving the serenity of the investigation, my client will not make any further statements on this matter and will respect the press freeze instituted by the Prosecutor's Office.
Client wishes to emphasize that she will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation and places her trust in the ongoing judicial process. She hopes that for the further course of the investigation she can therefore count on objective reporting with respect for the fundamental principles underlying our rule of law."
